Customization of Light and Heavy Steel Structures: The Core Logic from Demand to Implementation

  • Release time: 2025-09-29

The core of steel structure customization lies in "matching according to needs". The differences between light and heavy customizations stem from the fundamental distinctions between scene requirements and structural characteristics. Only by choosing the right direction can we achieve a balance between functionality and cost-effectiveness.

I. Core premise of customization: Clarify the applicable boundaries of light and heavy steel. Customization of light steel structure: It is suitable for light-load scenarios such as 3-story and below residential buildings, small warehouses, and temporary exhibition halls. The key words of customization are "lightweight, prefabricated, and short cycle", focusing on flexible disassembly and assembly and basic cost savings.

Customization of heavy steel structure: Focusing on heavy-load scenarios such as heavy industrial plants, large-span venues, and high-rise buildings, the customization keywords are "high strength, high stability, and resistance to extremes", with the core aim of meeting the requirements of heavy equipment loads and complex working conditions.

Definition criteria: The core references are steel consumption per square meter (light steel < 50kg/m², heavy steel ≥ 50kg/m²) and crane lifting capacity (light steel ≤ 20t, heavy steel ≥ 25t), combined with comprehensive judgment based on load and span.

II. Core principle of customization: Functionality comes first. Determine core requirements based on the purpose of the building. For example, when customizing a factory building, it is necessary to specify the tonnage of the crane. When customizing a residential building, attention should be paid to the floor area ratio and the flexibility of the layout.

Compliance and Adaptation: In accordance with specifications such as GB51022-2015, light steel structures must meet the requirements of prefabricated construction, while heavy steel structures must comply with welding and seismic standards.

Holistic consideration: Taking into account design, production, installation, and operation and maintenance, to avoid increased costs in later stages due to improper customization in a single link.

III. Typical Misconceptions in Customization: Blindly Pursuing "Heavier Steel for Greater Safety": Choosing heavier steel for light-load scenarios can increase steel usage costs by over 30% and prolong the construction period.

Neglecting regional adaptation: Customization in coastal areas has not been strengthened with anti-corrosion treatment, and seismic joints in high-intensity areas have not been optimized, affecting the structural lifespan.

Simplify communication process: The lack of clarity on functional details leads to repeated revisions of the plan, which in turn increases time costs.
